Survivor Filter - Cleanable Straw
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Is the Survivor Filter ready to use out of the box?
Yes! We are happy to say that the Survivor Filter™ is ready to use as soon as you receive it! While it is ready to use right out of the box, we recommend that everyone tests it out and makes sure they know how to operate it. This allows you and your family to familiarize yourselves with the product so in case of an emergency, you will already know how it works.

What type of water bottle will attach to my Survivor Filter?
The Survivor Filter can be screwed in with any 28mm bottle that can be found at your local grocery store such as the following: Smart Water or a Dasani water bottle available at most convenience and grocery stores throughout North America.
We also designed the Collapsible Canteens made to screw directly into the Survivor Filter.
-
I am having a hard time attaching a water bottle to the Survivor Filter, is it defective?
We hear this a lot, the problem is that you are likely using the wrong threaded bottle. The Survivor Filter™ takes a 28mm threaded plastic soda bottle like a 118ml soda pop bottle and not your standard water bottle. The reason it was designed this way is your standard 28mm threaded plastic soda bottle fits better with a precision device like your Survivor Filter™ as your standard water bottle threading was found to be flimsy and leaky when designing the product.

-
The Flow Rate on my new Survivor Filter is slow, is this normal?
The Survivor Filter boasts a flow rate of 200ml per minute. Other popular filtration systems have a flow rate half that.
Sometimes the flow rate is restricted due to air pockets building up in the Ultra Filter before first time use. This is why we advise our customers to blow through the product first before using.
If the problem persists, contact us right away and we will work with you to help you out or replace the Ultra Filter free of charge.
-
How do I clean the Survivor Filter?
Clean the Ultra Filter, and back flush if necessary by running clean fresh water through the filter in the opposite direction, then re-install and you are good for more use. If flow rate is still reduced, this is a sign that you will need to order a new carbon filter replacement.
Check out the video here for more cleaning instructions (Youtube link).
-
How often do I change the filter? or backwash? When will I know I need a new one?
Ultra Filter: The Ultra Filter can be reused up to 100,00 liters (26,417 gallons) before it should be replaced.
Carbon Filter Mouthpiece: The Carbon Filter can be reused up to 1,000 liters (264 gallons) before it should be replaced.
Cotton Pads: The Cotton Pads can be reused up to 1,000 liters (264 gallons) before needing replacement.
See a video demonstration how to quickly backwash here (Youtube link)
The filters can be cleaned and/or replaced when you start to notice that the flow rate of your filter is decreasing, and you have already tried cleaning and backwashing with no improvement to the flow rate.More frequent cleaning or replacement may be necessary depending on the quality of the water being filtered.
-
What is the shelf life on the Survivor Filter?
Keeping the Survivor Filter in storage for any length of time will not reduce its lifespan.
Even if you are keeping the products in long term storage, we recommend taking them out and testing them every once in a while. This is to ensure that the products still work and that you/your family know how to use them. It is also best to ensure that every piece of your Survivor Filter is dry before putting away for long-term storage.
-
How is the filter disassembled?
When assembling and disassembling your Survivor Filter, and/or installing please consult the manual provided with your device or online here.
